Fairhope, AL, November 1, 2018: Tax Attorney John Willis, CEO and founder of, recently posted a new article on his website entitled “Update: Hurricanes, Heisters And Other Heinous Human Acts,” in which Mr. Willis asks readers to do all they can to stay safe.

“Mother Nature certainly had her way with the Florida Panhandle, as well as the Carolinas, Virginia and Maryland coastlines this year,” writes Willis adding. “And, when Mother Nature strikes, the IRS has no recourse but to extend assistance in the form of tax filing and payment deadlines.”

“So, here’s the deal,” says Willis. “If you live in or have a business in any of the areas affected by Hurricane Michael or Hurricane Florence, you will be entitled to a postponement of various tax filing and payment deadlines.”

According to Willis, “In Florida this includes Bay, Franklin, Gulf, Taylor and Wakulla Counties where Hurricane Michael plowed through and left a trail of massive destruction.” He adds, “The tax filing deadlines that started on October 7th are now extended until February 28, 2019.”

Willis includes information about other relief programs and includes regulatory relief provided by the SEC to affected businesses.
Willis also focusses on the IRS efforts to prevent heisters from stealing from their coffers. He writes, “the government agency is getting better, but they don’t get an A+ yet.According to the Washington Post, “The IRS estimated online robbers attempted to steal at least $12.2 billion, if not more, through identity theft tax refund fraud in 2016, according to the Government Accountability Office (GAO). IRS vigilance thwarted most of those attempts, but the fakers got away with at least $1.6 billion. The good news is the 2016 data represent a steady and significant drop in tax identity theft since 2012.”
